I’m male… but I know a thing or two about Etsy, the online homemade crafts marketplace populated mostly by young women with art to sell.

I have a few very good friends who are part of the Etsy culture. (Check out The Noisy Plume, Umber Dove, Linny Kenney Leather, Sweet Bee Photo.) They’re brave, enterprising women who are very impressive individuals with some beautiful work to share with the world.

Etsy is a place reinvigorating the domestic arts, the organic, the natural, the homemade, the original. It’s also treacherous water for those who, despite the vulnerability inherent in putting your work up for sale, dare to do so anyway. And, as is often the case with artists, it encourages its share of the pretentious, the insecure and the spiteful.

This is my attempt at a parody video on the subject.
