On August 18th, I responded to Stephen Hopewell HERE on the subject of individualism. Stephen has prepared a reply of about 4500 words, in which he articulates the reasons he rejects libertarianism in favor of what he calls a “traditionalist conservatism”. Needless to say I can’t reproduce the entire article here, but please [...]
Another day, another argument with a creationist. It’s amazing to me how political conservatism and theological conservatism (including rejection of evolution for theological reasons) often go hand-in-hand here in the United States, even though both are mutually exclusive subjects. Can’t one believe in low taxes and evolution simultaneously?
The creation/evolution debate has always entertained [...]
Who knew? Burnel University lead researcher Dr William Brown:
We found that shorter, slimmer females with long slender legs, a curvy figure and larger breasts are more attractive.
Great, though I hardly think it’s unprecedented news. An excellent article by Guy Dammann examines the study and the components of physical attractiveness in today’s Guardian, in [...]
If you thought freedom of speech and expression was incontrovertible in the United States, you were - sadly - wrong. As Reason reports, porn producer John Stagliano was indicted in federal court in April for obscenity, a case which continues with his next court date in November. Since nothing pisses me off more [...]
Sorry if you’ve been having trouble posting comments since the site changed. It explains the silence on the comments sections the past few days. Everything should be reactivated now, so - - comment away!
I’ve been sent a mass email by Ron Paul, who’s Campaign For Liberty supersedes his presidential campaign as a way to harness the power of support for Paul’s message of libertarianism and to do something useful with it. The thing kicks off with Rally For The Republic in Minneapolis:
I hope I will see you [...]
Radley Balko says:
We Americans seem to think we have a right to cheap gas. There is no such right. Like anything else sold on the free market, the gas at the station pump belongs to someone else, at least until it falls into your tank and you swipe your credit card. From extraction, to processing [...]
This is a response to an article by Stephen Hopewell in The Heritage American.

Stephen,
I’ll start with a disclaimer, since I’ve noticed the words “traditionalist” and “conservative” in much of your blog and I’d rather not give the impression that I particularly identify with those goals. On the question you ask - “How individualistic should [...]
Welcome to another week, and thanks for checking in. So far, it’s kind of a slow news day, and it’s a Monday, so that’s a double-dose of awful.
I knew my day was ruined the moment I switched on Fox News and noticed Megyn Kelly’s absence this morning. Megyn is hotter than a five [...]
I was first introduced to Rick Warren by my dad in the mid-nineties, who had read Warren’s book The Purpose-Driven Church. At that point, I was invested in the idea of church, because I believed there was a way church could be done that would actually work and benefit people. Rick Warren believed [...]
