Well I agree Roby you can't remove guns any more, they are just too prevalent. But honestly I think it is a wrong idea to want to try to do so. Think about the statistic that was quoted above, that more guns are used for recreational purposes than for any other reason in America. You may as well remove anything else that people use for recreation and that a minority have died using. If there were no guns, nobody would ever get shot you say, and yet they would still get stabbed, hung, burned, suffocated, drowned, and so many other horrid things. I think the equating of guns with death is just wrong. Guns do make it easier to accomplish killing, we've made a more efficient means to kill, but that same tool is also a more efficient means to save lives too, and it's inevitable that civilized societies will get more and more efficient, at everything. Yes it's a shame people still want to kill each other, but blaming the tool is like blaming the computer for child pornography.

Well, I do agree that the more laws and regulations they pin on 'We the People', the less freedom we have to enjoy. What I do hate is guns themselves, the throwing of rocks at each other, whether you actually pick one up and fling it or pack it in a shell of black powder and shoot it, I don't like it. If there were no guns, no one would have ever got shot, that's my thought. But, they do exist, so we can't let just the lawbreakers be armed, unfortunately, humanity isn't yet civilized enough to stop wanting to hurt each other, so the good guys do need to protect themselves, their families and their possessions from those who do them harm. For me, I wish to harm no one, but if someone wishes to harm me or anyone else, I will do whatever it takes to stop them, but I’ll be armed with a huge attitude, a can of pepper spray, a taser and a small baseball bat!

Liam- You caught me! (Fixed.)

Starky- It all derives from the principle that you should be free to conduct yourself as you wish unless you're harming someone else (see here for more on that). Both guns and porn are freedoms we all have the right to possess, whether either of them interest us or not.

Quinney- Glad you enjoyed.

John, once again a very enjoyable and highly articulate critique. I'm finding less and less to comment on in this blog since I agree so wholeheartedly with so much of it! Great job.
