CoensThe 80th Academy Awards ceremony yielded its highest honours to my favourite film of 2007, the Coen Brothers’ No Country For Old Men:

Joel and Ethan Coen’s No Country for Old Men, considered the frontrunner going into the ceremony, lived up to expectations, racking up a leading four Oscars: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor for Javier Bardem. In accepting the Best Director honor, Joel Coen recalled the experience of making movies alongside his brother since childhood. “What we do now doesn’t feel that much different from what we were doing then,” Joel Coen said. “We’re very thankful to all of you out there for continuing to let us play in our corner of the sandbox.”

For those of you who still haven’t seen this movie, get it on DVD (available March 11th); it’s a trip.

I haven’t seen it. But my wife is letting me pick the movie this weekend so that’s what we’re going to see in the cinema. Looking forward to it.

Stephen- When you go, pick a seat that’s fairly central and listen to the audio track carefully throughout the whole thing… it’s a delight.

Loved No Country, especially Bardem (anyone who has not seen him in ‘The sea inside’ should do so, brilliant film tackling the issue of euthanasia). I thought ‘There Will be Blood’ was great also. There is something electrifying about Daniel Day Lewis. While at times he verges on overacting, you cant take your bloody eyes off him. The scene with him and Paul Dano at the church baptism is a storm.
