Well, that's the beauty of freedom and the free market: you CAN sell your kidney, but you don't HAVE to. There would still be many free kidneys around: for instance, if you needed a donor and I was a match I would give you it for free (on the condition that should my remaining kidney pack up I want the other one back!!!)

Well, I wouldn't say communist. I would say that most of our parties are cramming into the centre / left-of-centre ground: which means parties of very little principle whatsoever doing and promising whatever they think they have to to win support from an increasingly fickle public.

This makes a lot of sense to me. The logic is flawed. The end does not always justify the means. I should be deciding what happens with my organs, not anyone else. The UK is becoming more and more of a communist society!

Thanks for the comments Rosalita. I suppose the second part of the blog about the sale and purchase of organs might not be convincing as it sounds quite odd. But I would hold quite strongly to the principle that if our life and our bodies belong to us and if we rightly make our own judgments about them then it is a fundamental breach of our right to life to deny it to us.

Don't worry Stephen, people look at me that way even when I'm not talking politics! The first part of what you wrote here especially is very convincing. Happy 2008.

Everyone I've mentioned this idea to in the past few days has looked at me as if I'm either joking or satanic. So, looks like we have a lot of persuading to do!

No kidding, I couldn't agree more. The British government seems to be doing everything the exact opposite of the right way. You should be able to sell organs, you should also be able to buy them and you should have your body left to your relatives and not the government when you die. Simple enough?
