Happy New YearFrom Stephen and myself (I’ll presume to speak for him since I’m writing this from Belfast, NI): I’d like to wish you all – in particular our regular readers and contributors – a happy new year and a prosperous 2008. It’s worth pointing out that libertarianism is about being free to pursue happiness, and if the essence of any blog is going to reflect values which will make your new year a happy one, it’s the essence of this one. Thanks for another year – it’s our best yet – and I hope you’ll return in 2008 to read, agree, disagree, or respond.

    Happy New Year –
Have you noticed any changes in Belfast while you’ve been back?

Dave, sorry it took me so long to reply; yes I’ve noticed changes, difficult to articulate in some areas: the construction and economic boom and more money which in turn lead to happier, less hateful people, the process of normalisation in politics and culture, the more connected feeling – cynicism has been replaced by optimism in some cases, people have tasted something better than the past and I think they’re liking it. Anyway I had a very enjoyable visit! It’ll be an interesting change when Castle Court is challenged as centre of the centre.
