Declan assumes, in his lack of creativity and vision, that an emissions-free and pollution-free future must also be a consumer-free future. That's, er, nonsense. They've made the fault of combining their general hate of commercialism, and the idea that humans should be able to have what they desire, with environmentalism, which leads them to the conclusion that man's goals are at odds with the natural world. In fact, of course, man is PART of the natural world and there's no reason why we can't have a future which satisfies our need, greed, wants and curiosities without causing the pesky side-effects we do now.

Declan thinks it's a humanity problem that can only be solved by restrictions upon human will, when in fact it's an engineering problem that will be solved shortly by better engineering. 'Course, I know that's not as ideological, or as inspiring a cause. So he'll disagree.
