Rush has the last laugh

October 19th, 2007 · 7 Comments

This is just astonishing. Liberal Senators had no idea what they were doing when they attacked Rush Limbaugh on his “phony soldiers” comment, claiming that he had a track record of denigrating the troops. Limbaugh’s said a lot of things in his 20-year career, but denigrating the troops has never been one of them. To cut a long story short, leftwing U.S. Senator Harry Reid got up on the floor of the House, read a letter petitioning ClearChannel (Limbaugh’s syndication partner) to remove him from the airwaves. It was signed by quite a few other liberal Senators including presidential frontrunner Hilary Clinton.

Mark Mays, CEO of ClearChannel, is a friend of Limbaugh’s who, instead of removing Rush from the airwaves upon receiving it, simply passed the letter on to Limbaugh himself. Limbaugh (who is brilliant at public relations) then decided to auction it off on eBay, the proceeds of which will go to a charity which provides college tuition to the children of Marines who have died in Iraq. The highest bid on the auction was over $2.1 million, paid by philanthropist Betty Casey…. thus my suggestion that the Senators had no idea how this would come back to bite them.

Here’s Rush Limbaugh at a speaking engagement this week announcing the eBay auction. It’s a riveting video.

Mr. Wright, An interesting video but have you seen this.

‘In a striking display of cheekiness—or abject chutzpah—Harry Reid has decided to take credit for Rush Limbaugh’s auctioning off the now-infamous Reid letter. The false-premise letter—which exceeded $2MM on eBay—was written by Reid, signed by 40 Democrat senators and sent to Clear Channel CEO Mark Mays in an attempt to silence conservative Limbaugh; something Democrat leaders have been attempting for decades.’

H Harman #1 - Thanks, yes I saw that today Harry Reid has totally changed his tune in an attempt to make it seem like it was partly his idea! Entertaining stuff. Remember the same group of people are behind this who were behind the attempt to coerce broadcasters into impartiality policies so that programs like Rush Limbaugh wouldn’t even exist. They saw a chance to take him down, tried it and failed miserably - they’re now backtracking and attempting to distance themselves from their own original comments as much as possible. Rush and I disagree as much as we agree, but this attack on him is purely pathetic, and indicative of the attitudes of leftwing politicians toward free speech, private ownership, free press and the degree to which government should be involved in such things.

Rush, as in rush to judgment. This isn’t the first time youve got in trouble for supporting Rush is it???

While FACT: Rush himself avoided the Nam war with a cist on his ass.

You want more of Rush talking shit of the soldiers?

Paul- That entry was on an entirely different subject; I can’t see any basis for comparison. Either way, I merely reported the same story as Rush on the Obama ears story - it wasn’t ’support’ for Rush in any sense as you suggest.

JD- I can sense we’re not going to agree on this. I don’t know whether Rush used the “phony soldiers” comment about troops who disagreed with the war or whether he used it about the soldier who claimed to be a Green Beret and never was: I don’t particularly think it matters either way. But a man who sits on the board of the Marine Corp. Law Enforcement Foundation and has raised more money for military-related issues, a man whose daily talk show is the most requested on Armed Forces Radio among soldiers: these things can inherently not be the case if Harry Reid is right about Rush having denigrated the soldiers. So I submit to you that either Harry Reid is wrong, or you explain to me why Rush Limbaugh is so popular among the very people you’re claiming he’s denigrating!

    <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Why are the highest % soldiers in love with Rush?
Do you really need to ask that?….no seriously do you need me to tell you why?

In Iraq & as well as most military forts/stations through out the
US & through out the world military bases Rush is played or simulcast live.
Rush is the voice of the Right wing, pro military. He is the best propaganda
machine as the voice of the GOP & the war profiteers have.
What John, do you think the military is going to allow Randi Rhodes 12 mid pst.
or “This is America” 7pm pst hosted by Jon Elliott * on airamericaradio.com
to flow though our military bases? You see John if you haven’t figured this
    in the past 4 years
    Rush = Pro GOP cause,
Air America Radio = Pro America with a lot of documented facts released.

Yet, many Military men & women are indeed tuning into Air America Radio
.com via the free computer stream. Not all soldiers buy into the rhetoric
    Rush Limpballs spews.

And while I don’t particularly agree with Rushes (extreme right) views. I would
not wish to silence his rhetoric spew. This America and I believe he has that right
to speak. And I wont even really go into my favorite (documented) Rush stories
OK 1 my fav. His house keeper (maid) Is doing his street work for his oxy cotton
habit…standing out in front Denny’s with a cigar box full of money waiting for Rushes
“dope man” -BUSTED! …oh and that “well it’s not my” Viagra FL. international was humor!

Now can we talk about something with “effect” relevance to America?
Maybe something like the new bill Bush pushed through congress.
The newest Communications act to gather information: phone, cell, email
snail mail, etc. with out court order….and like “the military commissions’ act
This bill was designed to go back to cover (their acts against our constitution)
of any illegal acts years before this bill was signed. Are libertarians interested in
the rights granted by and the bills of the US Constitution ?

Any chance I can give you some “home work” ? Some bills & acts passed
on documented Facts recently and in history….and get your views?
Please believe me…It has a HELL OF A LOT more relevance than us arguing
about that douche bag Rush…. I think we both agree “freedom of speech”
