What makes the Libertarian Reason Blog unusual is that we don’t run up an endless array of short posts merely pointing to other articles and listing other blogs to visit for the “real” content. This blog has provided, from its inception in 2003, a completely original, eminently reasonable viewpoint on current affairs from a libertarian perspective. (And since then has gone through a few changes, including a new look, the addition of Stephen Graham, and a new domain at libertarianreason.com.) Up until now, the average Libertarian Reason post has been a full-bodied article of considerable substance, maybe three or four times the length of an average blog-post. We are the antidote to the soundbite-driven mainstream media.

Having said that, occasionally something crops up which warrants a look. Now and then, an article surprises us by making as much sense as we do, warranting a mere link. And here it is today, an article in the Wall Street Journal by Shelby Steele, a research fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford, author of “White Guilt: How Blacks and Whites Together Destroyed the Promise of the Civil Rights Era.” This article provides a timely insight into the political Left, and explains in a perhaps unsurpassed way why they behave the way they do.
