Dear Mr Stuart Jeffries,
You make the point in your article in today’s Guardian “Hell is 57 Varieties” that having too much choice in life is difficult and can result in unhappiness and anxiety. You make mention of the high number of products available in the modern-day supermarket. You note that Barry Schwartz in his book “The Paradox of Choice” offers a guide to good decision making, and you conclude that his is a “capitalist response to a capitalist problem”. I guess, not only from this sentence but from the entire tone of your article, that your relationship with capitalism is not a good one. And yet, as so often is the case with criticism of capitalism, you offer no answer or alternative.
May I ask what YOUR response is to this capitalist problem?
Yours sincerely,
